Avitus B. Carle Wins The 2023 Moon City Short Fiction Award

The editors of Moon City Press are thrilled to announce Avitus B. Carle as the winner of the 2023 Moon City Short Fiction Award! Avitus’ collection, These Worn Bodies, will appear this fall from Moon City Press. She will also receive the $1,000 first prize.

Avitus B. Carle (she/her) lives and writes outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. A graduate of the Naslund-Mann School of Creative Writing’s MFA program located in Louisville, Kentucky, her stories have been published in a variety of places, including Fractured Lit, ASP Bulletin, Five South, Lumiere Review, -ette review, and elsewhere. Avitus’ stories have been nominated for the O. Henry Prize, the Pushcart Prize, and Best Microfiction. Her story “A Lethal Woman” was included in the 2022 The Best Small Fictions anthology, and her story “Black Bottom Swamp Bottle Woman” was included on the 2023 Wigleaf Top 50 list.
